On a page i use on facebook for certain ford vans they have a test for when the cluster drops out. Smack the top of the dash above the instrument panel while you're driving. If you get your display back after smacking it, check the connectors on the back of it. If you still have no joy, it might need removing, and repairing, as it could be a LVTP.
